FAQ

What is Hemp Cannabidiol/CBD?

CBD is the non-intoxicating non-psychoactive component of the Hemp plant that has an array of holistic properties. Medical Studies have shown that CBD is an anti-inflammatory agent that helps reduce pain, swelling, fever and other symptoms of tissue or organ inflammation. Further medical reports indicate that CBD is antiemetic, meaning that is has the ability to lessen nausea and vomiting. They maintain that it is an anticonvulsant, therefore helpful in reducing and preventing seizures. It has been demonstrated that it has antioxidant properties and may help to reverse neurodegenerative ailments and some claim that it may delay the effects of aging. CBD has been used as an antipsychotic agent towards improving mental health. One of the main uses is for reducing anxiety and depression.

Many CBD users and supporters believe is useful in relieving all kinds of pain including headaches, muscle pain, neuroglia, menstrual cramps and all types of inflammation. It is believed by them that CBD helps ease the symptoms of debilitating chronic diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, rheumatism, Crohn’s disease, diabetes and many others. CBD has been used for many years in managing the side effects of harsh chemotherapy such as nausea, vomiting and fatigue. CBD is used to help stimulate appetite and encourage weight gain among patients with chronic illnesses although it is believed to have the reverse effect on regulating weight in a healthy user.

What is the difference between Isolate and Full Spectrum? Why choose one over the other?

Products infused with CBD from Isolate, derived and extensively refind from industrial hemp are the most pure form and most widely used by CBD advocates who are targeting specific health issues. Full Spectrum Hemp combines CBD derived from the hemp plant and contains a rich recipe of compounds that many believe exerts healing effects through complementary action of all of the ingredients. This is known as the “entourage effect”, where mixtures of cannabinoids may be more effective for certain individuals rather than a highly purified and isolated CBD.

What is the proper dosage? And at what frequency?

An effective dosage can vary depending on weight and severity of the ailment. It is crucial to gauge personal sensitivity with starting with CBD as everyone is different. It is recommended generally by medical practitioners, that for every 1kg of body mass, it can equate to 1mg of CBD. However practitioners are advising to start slow and work your way up. If you do not feel the effects of CBD at a starting low dose increase daily until the right dosage is reached. It is said that ever 12 hours is the window to inflammation so a general rule of thumb is to take CBD twice a day for full effects long term. Many long term users with chronic symptoms recommend taking CBD 3 times daily.

How do we source our CBD?

Our CBD is sourced from the highest quality growers and is grown to organic standards, with no pesticides, it is non-GMO Hemp combined with organic and vegan MCT carrier oil. We pride ourselves on quality and consistency.

What is MCT Oil?

Medium-chain triglycerides are a type of fat that is found in certain oils and dairy products. MCT oil is a dietary supplement that is made up of MCT fats, which are fats that can be found in coconut oil, palm kernel oil, and dairy products.

What is the MCT Oil used for:

MCT oil is mainly used by people looking to lose weight, or boost their endurance during a workout.

What is the benefit of MCT Oil, and why is it our carrier?

There is a higher bioavailability, as oil is metabolized extensively through the liver. MCTs are processed by the body in a different way to long-chain fatty acids. Unlike other fats, they go straight from the gut to the liver. From here, they are used as a source of energy or turned into ketones. Ketones are substances produced when the liver breaks down a lot of fat, and they can be used by the brain for energy instead of glucose or sugar. As the calories in MCTs are used straightaway, they are less likely to be stored as fat. This principle is the basis of the ketogenic diet, which many people believe is an effective way to lose weight.

Why has my oil turned a different color?

If you have recently purchased CBD oil that has turned pink or purple, it is due to polyphenol oxidase. Polyphenols are enzymes that are naturally occurring antioxidants. The longer your oil is exposed to light and oxygen, the more of a pink or purple hue it may become.

Fear not! Your CBD and MCT oil are not degraded nor less effective if they contain polyphenol oxidase. In fact, phenolic compounds are also found in many other fruits and vegetables that you may be already consuming, and they can have many health benefits.

Coconuts contain a significant quantity of polyphenols, which is why you may have had coconut water that had a pink tinge. WholeTree uses 100% coconut MCT as a carrier oil, and hemp also contains some polyphenol oxidase as well.

Is Mona Lisa Pet Friendly?

Yes it is 100% Pet Friendly. CBD itself is widely used in pet products. However many other CBD products use filer such as “Grape Seed Oil” as they are cheaper. These products can cause issues with Pet digestive tracts. We specifically opted for the more expensive MCT oil exclusively because it has no effect on Pet or human digestive tracts and can assist in promoting efficient digestion.

Can CBD affect any other pharmaceutical medication I could be taking?

We recommend that all CBD users should consult with their medical doctor prior to starting a CBD program. At low doses of CBD, 150mg total per day, it is unlikely that significant drug-herb interactions will occur. However be mindful of higher doses and their effects. CBD and other plant cannabinoids can potentially interact with many pharmaceuticals by inhibitings the activity of cytochrome P450 a family of liver enzymes. If you are taking a medication where maintaining a certain blood level is critical- such as anti-seizure, anti-viral, blood-thinning medications- talk with your healthcare provider or pharmacist before trying CBD.

Does CBD get you high?

No, Mona Lisa CBD does not get you high. THC from the marijuana plant is the cannabinoid that is commonly associated with getting high. Hemp plants have a very low THC level and CBD Isolate is CBD exclusively isolated from other Hemp ingredients.

Can I add MonaLisa CBD to my body lotions/skin-care regimine and products?

Yes absolutely! Many CBD advocates use CBD directly on their skin because of the widely held belief in the regenerative properties of CBD. Mona Lisa is mixed with MCT oil which is excellent for application to the skin without any additional creams or fillers. This procedure allows you the highest concentration of CBD directly to the skin. Additionally, although less effective, there is no harm in incorporating your CBD oil in any of your usual skincare products.

Is it safe to drive a car while taking CBD?

There is no clinical evidence known to us at this time that CBD will negatively impact driving cars or operating machinery. However it is up to each individual to personally investigate CBD clinical and medical studies, consult with your physician and gauge your personal sensitivity, particularly in conjunction with any other medications or substances that you are ingesting.

Is CBD addictive?

According to a recent report by the World Health Organization (WHO), CBD is not addictive and it has no potential for abuse or dependence. It has been proven that it is impossible to become addicted to CBD. CBD is currently being used for positive purposes at drug addiction facilities in parts of Canada as well as in other countries. CBD interacts with the receptor in the brain called the ventral tegmental area (VTA), to help resist the sensation of the reoccuring highs and lows.
